USB Microphone Not Working
« on: November 27, 2012, 09:59:36 PM »

Anyone else ever have this happen? I go into the PS3 menu and try to test the device under Audio Devices and I'm getting nothing in the mic. I've double checked  everything a dozen times. Everything is turned on. I can connect the USB mic to my Mac and it works fine. Any ideas? i hate to have to buy another mic for no reason.

News to me. It wouldn't hurt to give Sony's customer service a call.

Do you have multiple headsets?  I had two Logitechs and had similar issues, come to find out they were both setup and weren't automagically switching.  Sound was set to one and mic to another; resetting them manually to match what I was using fixed the problem.

Now I am TurtleBeach and loving it...

Make sure you have it set for "Audio Multi-Output".

See here - http://manuals.playstation.net/document/en/ps3/current/settings/audiomulti.html

I had this problem when I first got my TurtleBeach headset and it took me forever to figure it out.  Every once in a while a PS3 update would reset this setting to so perhaps that's what happened.

"Audio-Multi Output" is what get games sounds AND chat to your headphones.  A definite plus for Turtlebeaches...

Audio multi-output is what gets game sounds to my TV & my surround Tuner at once :)

I've never had to set multi-ouput to on.  My game sounds go through the optical out and communications go through usb.  My Tritton box then mixes the two together.

I believe my TurtleBeach works the same way.

I was under the impression that, when the PS3 is plugged into your TV, that was "audio out #1" and when you then plug in a headset like a TurtleBeach, that the head set would be "audio out #2", which was why the Multi-Output option needed to be on.

I could very well be wrong though.

Though I just reread the OP and realize he probably just has a chat only mic, so it's irrelevant to his problem anyway.

This is correct for a lot of microphones. My PS3 microphone included, I know because I had the same effin issue.

Also, check your lounge settings to see if you have voice chat enabled. My mic did not work in your lounge either.   :)
