The whole point of the load cell is that it is supposed to be easier to modulate your brakes. If the brakes are coming on late and too quickly, something is wrong. First connect your pedals to a pc and check how they are behaving with the Fanatec utility. Try changing the sensitivity and see how that changes brake response. The dial itself might not be setup properly. Then, I'd take off the piston and make sure that it is running smoothly. I wouldn't use water, its mechanical properties are a lot different than oil. next make sure that the piston and the rubber bumper are moving smoothly and hitting the load cell properly.
Personally I run mine at high sensitivity to save the load cell which is the weak point in these pedals. I also heel-toe with them and I don't have excessive problems with them tipping. They do tip too much but it isn't bad with high sensitivity. The pedals aren't the best there is but they are pretty good for the price.
Yeah, I'll do that. I have to be honest, I've never really been happy with these pedals. I spent a lot of time adjusting them and trying different things. I think they are just simply over-engineered. The final straw for me was when my daughter tried to use them after driving in my real car. She applied the same pressure she did in the car and got no brakes at all. I told her to push harder and she said, "why don't they work like your car?" And I went ... hmmm, yeah, that's how I've felt about them since I got them.
The clutch pedal is also really bad. They added this counter-lever thing to try to give it a feel of getting lighter as you push deeper. It makes a lot of noise late at night when I'm shifting. Again, if you go out to my car and push the clutch pedal in, it doesn't feel like that. I can remember really old cars that felt like that. Mine doesn't. I've also driven some Mustangs that felt like that. My clutch is pretty even pressure top to bottom. So in the end, I guess what I want is a set of pedals with adjustable springs so I can set the tension firm or soft. And that's basically what the cheaper pedals do.
I need to get this thing out of here, it's pissing me off the more I think about it. It probably has a bad load cell. Someone make me an offer.
