I finally got a couple full laps, and lots and lots of restarted laps in last night, and boy was it a blast.
I say "blast" but really this version of the Green Hell is far more demanding than any other I've been on.
I think a lot of us love this track because it is relatively easy to drive in GT. But actually with a more precise physics engine and scanning, it is absolutely hellish!
It's really a good kind of pain... cue "Hurt so good" by who was it... Mellencamp?
But actually, I was surprised by just how much the track wasn't different (yes, I'm doing one of those reversal thingies that every Top Gear car review segment does.. ."this car is great! but wait, it's actually rubbish!") compared to GT's version.
Even though I think we now know that PDI has not been laser-scanning everything, though some comments have been found that ellude to them using some of this tech, it is amazing that PD was able to get as close as they did without doing a full laser-scan with hi-res detail.
(Kunos' claim is that a 2cm sized bump in the pavement is modelled in the virtual track - that's fucking amazing)
"No, it isn't. I want to feel the ants squish beneath my tires! That's not sim enough!" <-- I've been thinking of starting a YouTube video series called "Are you sim enough?"... that line is from the main character, who hates all things not completely sim, wears a helmet when he races, and puts deodorant on his toes so that his slippers don't make his feet sweaty.
Long story short... you've got to try out this version of the Green Hell. It is absolutely wonderful and terrible simultaneously. Where can you find such S&M for $10? Last I checked, and it's been a while, the going rate for a dominatrix is much, much higher! LOL
