Kazanori Yamachi...  His initials are KY.

Coincedence?  I think not.

Was that a reference?

From the Planet..

Edit: The in-game news feed was updated around 20.00GMT on October 9th with the following:

Online Service Restored

The interruption experienced in the online service of Gran Turismo 5 has been resolved, and the service is now back online.
We apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused.

Interesting they should say that 8pm GMT, which is what around 3pm EST?  Because we did still have some weirdness last night at the TuTu, granted not on the scale of last week's Disco Fever so maybe we've just returned to the SNAFU state for online :).

I agree, it is not fixed.

KY says it's fixed so of course it's fixed or least I'm sure that it will be fixed "soon"

Even when they claimed it was broke mine still mostly worked. It would get a server connection error, but then on another try it would let me connect. From Friday to present. When I click on a lounge it has a long delay before showing who is in the lounge.

We are in the dark as to what is really going on with their network. If you ask me the online problems that we experienced in prologue carried over to 5 and have never really been addressed. Discos, Blackscreens and lock ups.

I am surprised it's not a Midnight Show.

IMDB gave it 4.8 thumbs up the ass.

Funny you should mention that...

Though on Friday, we're going with British cars (TVR Griffith).

Saturday's "special" Drive-In is sponsored in part by Nissan's System for Universal Customer Knowledge (called "Nissan's SUCK" for short...).

We'll be driving ANY Nissan R34 at specs in celebration of our resident Samurai's birthday.

Its amazing that Kaz/GT5/PD continue to make these updates or provide status to make it sound like its 'their' problem to fix.  Anyone that ventures outside of GT5 knows that this is a PSN issue, but those that dont are disillusioned into thinking PD is some kind of wonderkid.

Please Kaz, your not fooling anyone .... just yourself

Is it from the 4.25 update or just general PSN funkyness?

I think its just random PSN funkiness ... or maybe a DOS attack ... or could be a bazillion different things on their PSN network.

GT5 (obviously), BF3, Call of Duty and I even tried my TigerWoods game over the weekend ... all were the same. CRAPPY and LAGGY with frequent disconnects.

Yet, Kaz tweets that they are working diligently to fix the problem.  Geez-Louise, I bet PSN wont even talk to PD about the problem.  They wont want anything leaked and will be very tight lipped .... dont even breathe that the network was breached and passwords obtained ...

Ooops ... did I just say that?  :-X

if their network was breached, it wouldn't necessarily mean passwords obtained, and they had those stored in a non-secure way and were forced to change the security after the PSN outage of 2011.

IF someone attacked, I bet it just caused some problems and not the level of intrusion experienced before.

there is also a chance that there could have been a simultaneous issue with GT5 that other games are also experiencing.  however, unlikely.

All my comments were tongue-in-cheek, however there are groups out there that focus on bringing down PSN on a daily basis.  They dont have to intrude at all to disrupt service.  When the group is big enough and co-ordinated enough to ping flood a /64 IP block of PSN servers ... its enough to cause just what we have been seeing.  Lag and disconnects in this scenerio would be caused by dropped packets because the ping flood is priority and its filling the entire bandwidth of the pipe. Tracking down and blocking the multiple source's takes time ..... lots of time.

Intrusion?  No, most likely not .... but a Denial of Service attack?  My money is there .... Sometimes the network is good because they've shut the door on a number of source IP's .... but the group causing it reacts just as fast and comes from a whole different direction, thus increasing lag we see until PSN can tag those and shut them down.  Its a vicious circle, but in the end PSN will win .... when that is?  Who knows ...
